Community bike ride planned for August

Registration for Bike Huntley, the village’s annual community bike ride across the local parks and biking paths, now is open.

The free event will be Aug. 5, with registration and check-in opening at 1 p.m. at Coral Street on the town square. The ride, which is about 9 miles long and will take about an hour, will begin at 2 p.m.

Riders are asked to wear a helmet. Motorized vehicles and scooters, tricycles, Big Wheels and bikes with training wheels are not allowed.

After the ride, a community cookout will take place about 3:30 p.m. in the town square.

In preparation for the ride, Huntley police bike patrol officers and volunteers will be at the parking lot of the Huntley Area Public Library, 11000 Ruth Road, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday to help young riders with their safety skills.

Participants also must register and sign a waiver. A link to the registration form and waiver is available on the village of Huntley’s website.
