DIESEL DAYS, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 11-12, Illinois Railway Museum, 7000 Olson Road, Union. Feel the ground shake beneath your feet as you see, hear, and ride behind some of the most powerful locomotives ever built. FLEET 17 BOAT CLUB VENETIAN NIGHT, 7 to 10 p.m. Aug. 11, starting near Port Edward and the Algonquin Dam and ending at Kief's Reef in McHenry. A lighted boat parade on the lower Fox River presented by Fleet 17 Boat Club. This year's theme is "Light up the Fox." Prizes will be awarded to winners of different categories. Free. LIVING HISTORY OPEN HOUSE: 1858 AND WWII AT POWERS-WALKER HISTORIC LANDMARK, noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 12, Powers-Walker House Historic Landmark in Glacial Park, Route 31 and Harts Road, Ringwood. Step back in time to the 1850s and the World War II era at McHenry County Conservation District's living history open house. Tour the house and learn more about the Powers family that called this area home. Volunteers in historical attire will be on hand to answer questions, offer tours and demonstrate skills appropriate to the season. There will also be several special presentations.
