The Cary Fire Protection District readies for battle at its annual water fights in July 2017.

The Cary Fire Protection District will host its annual water fight Saturday.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will start at 3 p.m. at Station 1, 400 Cary Algonquin Road, Cary, Capt. Andy Veath said.

Fire departments from across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin will use fire hoses to push a barrel over the goal line of the opposing team, Veath said. There will be bleachers for residents to watch.

"They might get a little wet if they sit close by, but it is a lot fun," Veath said.

Food will be for sale, and free beer will be available, donated by Tracks Bar and Grill, Veath said.

The event has been going on for more than 20 years, he said.
