Letter: Township drama unnecessary

To the Editor:

McHenry County township issues seem to make the headlines in the Northwest Herald often, and it appears that two men frequently are in the limelight: Algonquin Township Highway Commissioner Andrew Gasser, and barber and McHenry Township Trustee Bob Anderson. Drama seems to follow them.

Gasser’s latest headline grabber is his apparent devotion to the letter of the law and his refusal to continue functions he thinks should be assumed by other parts of the township and not his township highway department. Makes sense on some of the issues he rattled off until he said he was discontinuing bus service for older adults and disabled residents who need transport to doctor’s appointments, kidney dialysis and food stores.

What a guy! Suddenly, I don’t feel sympathy for Gasser and his complaints. Instead of going to the press and creating a big splash, it’s time for Gasser to work professionally, quietly and collaboratively with Algonquin Township Supervisor Charles Lutzow. Now, regarding barber Bob Anderson who wants to buzz cut McHenry Township by eliminating its road district functions, Anderson states “he doesn’t see any reason to conduct a cost study on consolidation of the road district because it is a common-sense move.” Again, Anderson does not want his beliefs tested. Why is it so important to him that the public be kept in the dark as to whether they’d save money or not by consolidation? Anderson appears to adopt an air of infallibility and hubris.
