Country Tile and Carpet is no more.
The local wood, carpet, vinyl and tile store called Cary home for 37 years.
Owner Joe Trawinski is retiring, and he said his decision is bittersweet.
“When you have it for 37 years, it’s kind of sad to see it go,” he said. “It’s like a baby. I raised it, and now it’s time to let it go.”
Trawinski said the company stopped taking orders in July. He’s in the process of selling off his remaining materials.
The company opened in 1982 but moved to its location at 3300 Three Oaks Road in 1987.
“Attention, clients, after 37 years of working in this wonderful town of Cary, it’s time for me to retire,” according to a message posted on the building’s glass door. “It has been a pleasure to serve this community and get to know so many of you. Thank you for all your business over the years.”
Taren Valdilles, who runs T’s Salon in the same complex, said she’ll miss Trawinski and his wife, Marlene.
“They’re like family,” she said, adding that T’s Salon used to be Marlene’s Hair Salon. “I’m going to miss them.”
Valdilles said Joe Trawinski would “give the shirt off his back” to anyone in need.
