Former Huntley softball outfielder Jessica Shields is transferring to Division I Loyola-Chicago, Loyola announced Thursday.
Shields, a 2016 Huntley graduate, is one of six new players joining the Ramblers in 2019. She played the past two seasons at Division II University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Shields started all 48 games for the Rangers last season and earned third-team all-conference in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
A left-handed hitter, Shields hit .323 with a .398 on-base percentage and 35 runs scored. Her 38 stolen bases were 13th in the country in Division II.
“Jess is a phenomenal person with a great work ethic that will help us in a variety of ways,” Loyola coach Jeff Tylka said. “Her experience and leadership will be an attribute to our current group. I’m excited to see what she can bring to our program.”
While at Huntley, Shields was a Northwest Herald All-Area First-Team performer and a Class 4A ICA All-State First-Team performer. Her senior season she hit .536 and set the Red Raiders’ single-season and career stolen base marks. She helped Huntley win back-to-back regional titles in 2015 and 2016.
