A Harvard bar fight Monday evening landed a man in the McHenry County Jail after police said he groped a woman, pushed her to the ground and tried to choke her when she blocked him from approaching the bar counter.
Hub Lounge employees refused to serve 47-year-old David Hahn when he arrived at the bar “extremely intoxicated” Monday night, Harvard Deputy Police Chief Tyson Bauman said.
Police reported at 11:26 p.m. to the bar at 15 N. Ayer St., where a fight reportedly was underway, Bauman said. When officers arrived, they learned Hahn had groped a woman he didn’t know, leaving bruises, according to a criminal complaint filed in McHenry County court Tuesday morning.
Hahn proceeded to push the woman to the ground and choke her from behind with both hands, according to the complaint.
No one was seriously injured, and the woman refused treatment, police said.
Police don’t know why Hahn might have attacked the woman, since he refused to give a statement to officers, Bauman said.
Bar staff could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
Hahn, of the 18500 block of Route 173, Harvard, is charged with aggravated battery in a public place. If convicted, he could be sentenced to as many as five years in prison.
He remained at the McHenry County Jail on Tuesday afternoon on a $30,000 bond, meaning he must post $3,000 to be released. Hahn is due in court Friday morning.
