Police find bullet hole in ceiling of Fox River Grove apartment

A tenant in a Fox River Grove apartment complex returned home Wednesday and made an unsettling discovery: a bullet hole in the ceiling.

Between noon and 3:30 p.m., someone inside an apartment in the 400 block of Lincoln Avenue fired a gun and sent a bullet through the floor and into the empty unit below, Fox River Grove Police Chief Eric Waitrovich said.

Police later retrieved a bullet from the scene.

The shot through the ceiling appeared to be an accident, but police have not completed their investigation, Waitrovich said.

A person of interest in the case is a man who does not live in the apartment above the bullet hole, Waitrovich said.

No one is in custody.

If someone had been home when the shot was fired through the ceiling, the outcome of the incident could have been a lot worse, Waitrovich said.
