Registration is open for a special glow-in-the-dark 5K fun run to benefit Huntley School District 158’s Education Foundation, but participants must act quickly to take advantage of discount prices.
The Huntley Hootenanny Glow 5K Fun Run, which is open to all ages and abilities, is the first fundraiser of its kind for the district and will take place at 7 p.m. Sept. 8 in downtown Huntley.
Registration prices through Tuesday will be $5 for District 158 students and $20 for all others. Prices then will jump to $10 for students and $25 to $30 for all others. Race shirts also will be guaranteed to those who register by Tuesday.
After participants have run through a neon-lit route around the community, there will be a block party. Participants are encouraged to use glow-in-the-dark body paints, glow sticks and other colorful accessories for the run.
The race will not be timed, but prizes will be awarded to the first male and female finishers. Special prizes for the “glowiest” participant and “glowiest” building, fence or yard along the race route also will be awarded.
The event is co-sponsored by the village of Huntley, and proceeds will benefit the education foundation’s teacher grants and student scholarships. The hope of the education foundation is that the 5K will be a capstone event to raise as many funds possible to fill students’ needs.
Registration and sponsorship information is available on the District 158 website.
