Wonder Lake teens accused of stealing from cars

Residents with missing items should call police

Wonder Lake residents living in and around the 7500 block of Center Drive are advised to check their vehicles for missing items after two teenagers who police say are responsible for a string of car burglaries were arrested.

At about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to a release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, a resident saw two people breaking into his vehicle. The person was able to detain one of the offenders, 18-year-old Donald Simon, briefly before he escaped, according to the release.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded and set up a perimeter in the area. Deputies located Simon and 19-year-old Michelle Buhrke-Conway, both from Wonder Lake. The teens had several items stolen from multiple vehicles and were arrested, the release said.

Simon and Buhrke-Conway both were charged with burglary to a motor vehicle, a Class 3 felony punishable by two to five years in prison. As of Friday, they each remained confined on a $30,000 bond.

Anyone with missing items from a car is encouraged to call the sheriff’s office’s criminal investigative division at 815-334-4750.
