Good Samaritans to be recognized for efforts in Huntley rollover

A group of good Samaritans who helped save the life of a woman who overturned her vehicle in a Huntley retention pond earlier this month will be recognized during a special event on Wednesday.

Illinois State Police Director Leo Schmitz, Illinois State Police D15 Captain Robert Meeder, Illinois State Tollway Chairman Robert Schillerstrom and the crash’s survivor, Joanna Girmschied, will commend the individuals involved at 10 a.m. at the Illinois Tollway M-8 building in Naperville.

At about 3:18 p.m. on Aug. 3, Girmschied was exiting Interstate 90 on the southbound Route 47 ramp when she lost control of her vehicle and flipped over into a retention pond, according to Illinois State Police.

Illinois State Police will also release video footage of the individuals’ life-saving efforts during the incident.
