High school sports roundup for Monday, Aug. 27

Cary-Grove's Trevor Brandon and Crystal Lake Central's Eric Klutke both shot 3-under-par 33s to tie for top honors in their Fox Valley Conference boys golf dual meet Monday at Turnberry Country Club in Lakewood.

C-G (1-1 FVC) won, 151-164, with Michael Greenhill shooting a 38, while Patrick Tobin and Cole Seeger each shot 40s.

Bayden Hubacher shot a 40 for the Tigers (0-2 FVC).

Rockford Lutheran 165, Richmond-Burton 165: At Swan Hills in Belvidere, the Crusaders won their nonconference dual meet with a fifth-score tiebreaker.

R-B’s Connor Lindley fired a 1-over-par 36 to take medalist honors. Jackson Bolman (39), Hunter Volkmar (42) and Ryan Eskuri (48) were the Rockets’ other scorers.

Burlington Central 177, Marengo 215: At Marengo Ridge, Brady Cannon and Justin Oine each shot 51s to lead the Indians in their Kishwaukee River Conference loss to the Rockets.

Tyler DiDomenico shot a 41 to lead Burlington.

Wauconda 188, Harvard 203: At Beaver Creek in Capron, Hunter Gratz and Jake Chupich each shot 48s to lead the Hornets in their nonconference loss to the Bulldogs.

Grant 161, Johnsburg 234: At Valley Ridge in Antioch, Anthony Murtaugh shot a 49 to pace the Skyhawks in their nonconference loss.


McHenry 5, Burlington Central 0: At McHenry, the Warriors got goals from five players as they rolled past the Rockets in their nonconference game.

Jason Mendez, Edwin Navas, Mike Feurt, Johann Mota and Riley Hedberg scored goals in the first half for McHenry (1-1-1).

Mendez, Feurt, Andy Renteria, Jose Lira and Danny Quinonez had assists for the Warriors. Logan Freid had three saves in goal.

Barrington 1, Jacobs 0: At the Barrington Tournament, the Golden Eagles (1-1) suffered their first loss of the season.


South Elgin Invitational: At Elgin Country Club, Huntley took fifth and Hampshire finished eighth in the 11-team event.

Katie Matustik shot a 44 and Molly Baker a 45 to lead Huntley, which finished at 184.

Hampshire shot a 202, 23 strokes better than last season at the tournament, led by Delaney Marcuccilli’s career-best 45. Gianna Farinella shot a 50.

Badger (Wisconsin) 190, Johnsburg 203: At Geneva National in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Ceara Mulvey shot a 46 to lead the Skyhawks in their nonconference loss to the Badgers. Gracie Berthoud had a 48 for Johnsburg.


Hampshire 2, St. Edward 1: At Hampshire, Riley Seagren and Jacey Lambert each had nine kills, and Sam Rossetti had 19 assists as the Whip-Purs (7-1-1) defeated the Green Wave in a nonconference match, 17-25, 25-13, 25-22.

Bella Sobota had nine digs for Hampshire.

Alden-Hebron 2, Harvard 1: At Harvard, Melanie Nielsen had eight kills, five digs and four aces to lead the Giants past the Hornets in their nonconference match, 25-19, 24-26, 25-15.

Zoe Deeringer had six kills, four digs, three aces and eight assists for the Giants (2-1). Taylor Horton had six digs and nine assists.

Desiree Brady had three kills for the Hornets (0-2). Haley Tittle had three aces and two blocks, while Yesenia Garcia had three aces. Alex Cooke had seven assists.


Marengo 5, Streamwood 0: At Marengo, Maddy Haas (No. 1) and Sabrina Rosenquist (No. 2) won in singles to lead the Indians to a nonconference sweep of the Sabres.

Ashtyn Martin and Jacqueline Snyder (No. 1), Alexis Tena and Devon Rado (No. 2) and Jasmyn Montano and Alyssa Cass (No. 3) won in doubles as Marengo did not lose a set.

Crystal Lake Central 5, Grayslake North 2: At Grayslake, the Tigers improved to 2-0 with a nonconference win.

Central swept the singles matches with Giselle Lemke, Ellie McGinnis and Julia Fier winning at Nos. 1 through 3 singles, respectively. In doubles, Katie Haviland and Cassie Preshlock (No. 2) and Morgann Paaske and Emma Grindstaff also won.
