As long as supplies last, Huntley residents have until Sept. 15 to order parkway trees from the village as part of the 50/50 Residential Parkway Tree Replacement Program.
Those interested in ordering a parkway tree from the village can complete a tree order form, which is available on the village’s website. Prices range from $160 for certain 2-inch caliper trees to $275 for certain 3-inch caliper trees.
The location the tree will be planted is solely at the discretion of the village, and residents only are able to add a second tree to the parkway if there is sufficient room according to village code. Village officials also advise that residents who have had a tree planted in the past few years should remove the stakes, since leaving them in longer than two years is bad for the tree’s health and growth.
If a resident is replacing a dead tree, it must be removed before they submit an application.
The goal of the program is to assist in the replacement of trees removed from public rights of way and to preserve a healthy community of trees in the village, according to the village’s website.
Order forms and payments will be accepted in person, via payment drop boxes or through mail to Huntley Village Hall, 10987 Main St.
Orders will not be processed unless a check or money order payable to the village of Huntley is included with the form.
Weather permitting, trees are scheduled to be planted in mid-October.
Applications for the program are available twice a year.
