Cary Main Street Fest is coming back to the village’s downtown area starting Saturday.
The fifth annual festival will be celebrated Saturday and Sunday, and it will feature live music, local fare from area restaurants, craft beer on tap, vendors, merchants, games and more.
Organized by the Cary-Grove Area Chamber of Commerce, the event generates proceeds to fund the Chamber, promote local businesses and give back to the community through donations, scholarships and a grant program.
Here’s a look at some of what’s happening at this year’s festival:
• Inaugural Cary-Grove Voice Competition: After tryouts at Galati’s Hideaway, a field of 10 contestants of all ages advanced to compete onstage during Cary Main Street Fest.
The competition will begin at noon Sunday.
Each contestant will sing one song, and the winners will be chosen by an audience vote.
This event provides an opportunity for the 10 local singers to showcase their talents and compete for $500 in prize money.
• Classic Car Show: From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, classic car owners will showcase their hot rods. Cars will be parked in a Metra lot behind BMO Harris Bank near the farmers market.
All classic car owners will receive a free pass.
• Bags Tournament: This is a 32-team, double-elimination tournament, beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday. Teams will compete for $250 in prize money.
• Expanded Fest Footprint: This year’s fest will extend down Spring Street, a move that created room for additional food vendors.
The new layout also allows organizers to expand the Family Area (bouncy houses, games, family stage) and the Market Vendor area.
