Nominations open for Woodstock School District 200 Education Foundation award of excellence

In 2015, the foundation renamed the award the Sue Palmore Award of Excellence to honor the memory of former board member Sue Palmore, who was the board’s liaison to the foundation and a community member who dedicated herself to improving the lives of District 200 students.

Palmore died in 2012 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Nominees for the 2019 Sue Palmore Award of Excellence must be postmarked by Nov. 2.

Nomination materials can be found on the foundation’s website, and the completed nomination packet must be sent to District 200 Education Foundation, P.O. Box 172, Woodstock, IL 60098.

Eight community members have been honored with the Award of Excellence since 2011: Bud Swartout, Barb Banker, Bill Schuette, Jim Campion, Miguel Rodriguez, Joy Aavang, John Van Fleet and last year’s winner, Ron Bendis.

The winner will be presented with the award at the District 200 Education Foundation’s Groundhog Day Dinner & Auction on Feb. 9 at Woodstock Harley-Davidson.

The award is open to any District 200 resident, any current or previous district employee or any graduate of District 200.

Honorees are selected based on contributions that have resulted in significant improvements to education.

Previous nominees who have not been selected are eligible for renomination.

If a nominee meets the criteria, a nomination packet must be submitted, which includes a summary of the nominee’s background, qualities and experience in education, highlighting specific examples of the contributions the nominee has made.

The nominator also must include a submission form and three additional letters of support for the nominee.

The recipient will be chosen by a foundation selection committee and subject to final approval from the foundation’s board.

The District 200 Education Foundation is a private, nonprofit organization formed in 1993 to enhance and enrich the educational programs offered to students in District 200’s
12 schools.

With the motto of “Making things happen that ordinarily would not,” the foundation plans activities and attracts donations to fund programs and services that are not covered by the school district’s budget.

Since 1994, the foundation has awarded more than $500,000 in grants to District 200 teachers for innovative projects and activities.
