More than 2.8 million Queen of Hearts tickets are expected to be sold for the highly anticipated drawing at the McHenry Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4600, organizers said.
So if you bought a ticket, your odds of winning are one in 2.8 million.
Someone will become an instant multimillionaire when the coveted queen of hearts is chosen at 8 p.m. Tuesday at 3002 Route 120.
A drawdown will take place, so tickets will be picked until one bears the number of the envelope containing the queen of hearts. The remaining numbers are 20, 25, 30, 36, 40, 51 and 54. The pot stands at $7,080,528.
When the queen of hearts is chosen, the winner will earn 60 percent of the pot, which would be about $2.8 million after taxes. Another 20 percent of the pot would go back to the VFW.
The next game with 54 new tickets will begin Jan. 8. When it does, 20 percent of the final pot from this game, along with the ticket sale revenue from the final week, will go toward the opening pot of the next game. It could start with $3.75 million.
The odds of winning are still far greater than for last year’s $758.7 million Powerball jackpot. The odds of winning that game were one in 292.2 million. The Illinois Lottery says its “Lucky Day Lotto” has “the best odds of any jackpot game.” The odds of winning that $150,000 jackpot are one in 1.2 million, according to lottery spokesperson Jason Schaumburg.
