Letter: Don't change Hebron water tower

To the Editor:

The Hebron water tower was custom fabricated and painted to honor the 1952 state championship basketball team. It has served as an iconic landmark of our community, and it has become a well- known, historic landmark with great meaning to many, not only locally but far and wide. It even earned the honor of the National Basketball Hall of Fame recognition.

We appreciate that the repainting of the water tower soon will start, but we implore you to not start painting without considering the voice of the people who are affected by your decisions. If our village followed the Open Meetings Act, the community would have known of the plan and been able to have a voice sooner, but as our leadership chooses a style of not being forthcoming with accurate information, we find ourselves making this 11th hour plea to please read the comments of the petition and reconsider making any changes to the colors, font or intent to add any names to the tower.

Please keep its historic image as we’ve all known and loved.
