Man flown to trauma center after tree removal accident in Crystal Lake

A Flight for Life helicopter airlifted a man to an area hospital Saturday after an accident involving tree removal equipment left him with traumatic injuries, authorities said.

At 1:54 p.m., the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded to the 6900 block of New Hampshire Trail in Nunda Township, where someone reported that a man had suffered a traumatic injury, Battalion Chief Chris Kopera said.

Emergency crews found a tree removal company that had been using a stump grinder and a man who had been injured.

A Flight for Life helicopter was sent to Prairie Ridge High School to fly the man to a trauma center. He left the scene in critical condition, authorities said.

Crystal Lake fire officials could not provide details on what led to the man’s injuries.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office could not be reached Saturday.
