An Arlington Heights man who received probation for sexually abusing a woman and stealing jewelry from her McHenry County home could receive a harsher sentence after picking up new charges in another county.
Prosecutors have asked to revoke 25-year-old Blake R. Alberts’ sentence after learning he was charged in connection with a fight July 4 in Lake County, according to a petition filed in McHenry County court.
Because Alberts broke the terms of his probation for the sex abuse charge, he now faces up to seven years in prison.
In June, Judge Sharon Prather ordered Alberts to serve two years of probation for the 2017 sexual abuse of a woman he allegedly met at Club 220 North in Lake in the Hills that night.
The woman reported that another man, Eric J. Elwell, held her down while Alberts assaulted her. The men eventually took off with about $500 worth of jewelry from her home, according to criminal complaints filed at the time.
Alberts and Elwell each accepted plea deals in connection with the woman’s allegations. As a result, Alberts is required to register as a sex offender for life.
Alberts originally agreed to take the plea deal
Jan. 26, but later told the judge he only pleaded guilty so he could visit his ill father while awaiting sentencing.
Prather told him at the time that if he were to go back on the negotiation, he would be sent to jail.
Alberts considered his options for about two weeks before ultimately pleading guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse and theft of items valued at more than $500.
