A multipurpose building at 11804 Route 47 in Huntley, which already houses Huntley Animal Care, soon will be the home of a dog day care facility after the Huntley Village Board approved a special use request for the business Thursday.
The business, which will be known as The Barking Lot, will operate seven days a week between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. with the possibility of hosting after-hour events on a monthly or bimonthly basis. The owners are expecting to house 20 to 30 dogs on average but a maximum of 40 dogs would occupy the roughly 9,750-square-foot space at one time.
On their first visit, clients must complete paperwork to verify required immunization, and a temperament test must be performed to confirm the pet’s ability to be safely housed with other dogs. Dogs will not be boarded overnight.
Dogs are expected to be fed before being dropped off, but ample water will be provided in separate bowls for each dog.
PVC-fenced areas will separate dogs based on sizes with larger play areas both for small- to medium-sized dogs and larger dogs.
There also will be a small coffee bar and retail area that will sell dog specialty products, high-end organic food and custom harnesses.
