Fall Harvest Fest in Huntley offers family-friendly activities

Event follows 5K benefiting Special Olympics Illinois

In a celebration of fall, downtown Huntley will host the Fall Harvest Fest on Sunday, complete with family-oriented activities.

The event will be from 11 a.m. to
4 p.m. Food tents will open at 11 a.m., along with opportunities to buy seasonal decor, such as pumpkins, cornstalks and Indian corn.

Starting at 1 p.m., families can take part in a variety of seasonal entertainment.

A family costume parade around the downtown square will happen at
1 p.m. Horse-drawn hay rides will be from 1 to 4 p.m., and family games and crafts will be from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

Trinity Lutheran Church also will be sponsoring a “trunk or treat” event from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Church Street. This event is an alternative to trick-or-treating that allows young children to walk through a parking lot of decorated cars to ask for candy instead of going door-to-door.

As the festivities begin, Huntley also will host a 5K trot to raise donations and awareness for Special Olympics Illinois.

The run will be held rain or shine on Coral Street between Church and Woodstock streets. Participants are welcome to wear costumes for the 5K to get into the spirit of Halloween. Service dogs are the only animals allowed during the event.

Registration for the 5K, which can be done on Eventbrite, is $25 in advance, while same-day registration is $30. Registration and check-in will take place at 9 a.m., followed by a torch-lighting ceremony at 10:50 a.m. The run itself will start at 11 a.m.
