To the Editor:
For those scoring at home. First, we have a candidate for the State Senate (Wilcox) who pays no property taxes on his $400,000 plus home by using a loophole in a Veterans Assistance program permitting abatement in property taxes for a service-related disability, but who refuses to address the nature of his disability.
Secondly, we have a former State Senator (Althoff) who sees no problem in being a registered lobbyist while running for seat on the County Board. Also, former Senator Althoff resigns her position so candidate Wilcox can run as an incumbent (also to presumingly quality for a state pension). And lastly, we have an attorney for the Algonquin Township Highway Commissioner (Gasser) shaking down Algonquin Township for $40,000 (plus $5,000 per month until paid) to remove the Highway Commissioner from a FOIA lawsuit generated by a group (Edgar County Watchdogs) called in to investigate alleged misdeeds by former long term Highway Commissioner (Miller).
This is called extortion. Had enough? Establish some checks and balances in McHenry County politics, elect local Democratic candidates.
