To the Editor:
Last week, I visited the McHenry Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4600 to meet and learn more about 14th Congressional District candidate Lauren Underwood.
She has an amazing understanding of complex issues, a clear vision for how to make a self-governing democracy begin to work for its citizens again, and embodies the traits of a servant leader.
Her career background in nursing and government response in such difficult crises as Ebola, Zika virus and Flint, Michigan’s water debacle have prepared her well to make a difference on our behalf in an unhealthy Congress.
Her opponent is four-time incumbent Randy Hultgren. He went 16 months without public availability in the district during his current term, and may have been wise to do so.
Hultgren’s vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act was in direct conflict with his promise not to vote for any repeal and replacement bill that included stripping the provision for pre-existing conditions.
Hultgren is compromised by his corporate donors, whereas Underwood strives in word and deed to be accountable to her constituents first and foremost.
Vote for representation accountable to you, and a check on the foolishness in Washington Hultgren has supported and become beholden to.
