To the Editor:
I would like to commend Sen. Pamela Althoff’s efforts opposing extremely shortsighted legislation that could become law if House Bill 4637 is enacted. Those in favor of this bill merely are playing to distorted views from a misguided politician from the east side of McHenry County. To blindly propose disbanding a local unit of government without proper analysis is irresponsible and ultimately will cost taxpayers.
Why would voters, who can directly elect their highway commissioner, choose a politicized body to coordinate and manage road maintenance? Residents considering the referendum in McHenry Township would be giving away their voice in selecting a highway commissioner who determines road priorities. Further politicization of delivering services to taxpayers is not a responsible or beneficial plan.
Consolidation of government is the ultimate loss of your voice. Don’t be fooled by the rhetoric! Have you ever had success in getting bigger government to efficiently serve your needs?
