The No. 10-seeded Skyhawks had no problem, even playing without quarterback Alec Smith, in taking care of No. 7 Chicago Agricultural Science, 46-0, in their Class 4A first-round playoff game Saturday night at Gately Stadium.
Johnsburg, which is 8-4 in the playoffs since 2014, will host No. 2 Coal City (9-1) in the second round next weekend at a time and date to be determined. The Cyclones finished at 7-3.
Wide receiver-defensive back Jonny Preston (pictured above) stepped in for Smith, who has a sprained ankle, and threw touchdown passes to Justin Peake and Augie Lichtenstein in the first half for the Skyhawks (7-3).
“It was interesting,” Preston said. “Alec is a great teammate. He helped me out all week and the offense really helped me out tonight. I had reps as QB1 all week and found out yesterday.”
