Trick-or-treat hours Wednesday for the McHenry County area are as follows:

• Algonquin – 3 to 7 p.m.

• Carpentersville – 3 to 7 p.m.

• Cary – 3 to 7 p.m.

• Crystal Lake – 3 to 7 p.m.

• Fox River Grove – 3 to 7 p.m.

• Hampshire – 4 to 7 p.m.

• Harvard – 5 to 8 p.m.

• Hebron – 3 to 7 p.m.

• Huntley – 4 to 8 p.m.

• Island Lake – 4 to 8 p.m.

• Lake in the Hills – 2 to 8 p.m.

• Lakemoor – 4 to 8 p.m.

• Lakewood – 3 to 7 p.m.

• Marengo – 3 to 7 p.m.

• McCullom Lake – 4 to 7 p.m.

• McHenry – 4 to 8 p.m.

• Oakwood Hills – 3 to 6:30 p.m.

• Prairie Grove – 4 to 7 p.m.

• Richmond – 4 to 8 p.m.

• Spring Grove – 3 to 7 p.m.

• Union – 3 to 6 p.m.

These Halloween-related events are scheduled:

HALLOWEEN HANDOUT, 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, downtown Crystal Lake. Participating merchants throughout downtown Crystal Lake open their doors to invite costumed children age 12 and younger to receive a treat. Participating merchants will have an orange “Halloween Handout” pumpkin flyer on their window. Information: 815-479-0835 or downtowncl.org.

SAFE TRICK OR TREAT, 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sunrise Senior Living of Crystal Lake, 751 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Residents will be passing out candy in the main lobby for costumed children with adult supervision. Free. Information: 815-444-6600 or sunriseseniorliving.com.

SAFETY TOWN TRICK OR TREAT, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Safety Education Center, 1109 Crystal Lake Road, Lake in the Hills. Hosted by the Lake in the Hills Police Department. Children can trick or treat throughout the miniature town behind the center in a fenced area, where they can go up to each little building and meet friendly monsters and other cool characters who will hand out treats. 9 p.m. Wednesday, Drendel Ballroom in Prairie Lodge, 12880 Del Webb Blvd., Huntley. Participate in an evening dancing to the sounds of the 18-piece Let’s Dance Big Band. Dance the jitterbug, Lindy, cha-cha, waltz and more. Come with or without a costume. Costume contests with prizes will be included. Cash bar. JOE DIAMOND PRESENTS: “PARANORMAL,” 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Lakeside Arts Park at the Dole, 401 Country Club Road, Crystal Lake. Mind reader Joe Diamond stars in a one-hour show that includes mind reading, sideshow stunts, ghost stories, psychic readings and a 19th-century séance. After the show, take a flashlight tour through the historic Dole Mansion and hear about its mysterious secret history. Tickets cost $22 in advance or $27 at the door. 16TH ANNUAL “NOTHIN’ UP MY SLEEVE,” 7 p.m. Friday, Raue Center for the Arts, 26 N. Williams St., Crystal Lake. A spooktacular family-friendly magic variety show filled with some of the finest magic, juggling and comedy entertainment, with a Halloween theme. Kids of all ages are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes. (Nothing too scary, please.) Featuring magicians Glenn Chelius and Nino Cruz. Tickets start at $17. PUMPKIN ROLL & PUMPKIN SMASH, 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Lions Park Pavilion, 1200 Silver Lake Road, Cary. Don’t know what to do with your Halloween pumpkin decorations? Bring your carved pumpkins and roll them down the park’s sledding hill to see if they are strong enough to make it across the finish line. All are welcome. Hosted by the Cary Park District. TRUNK OR TREAT, 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, OfficeMax, 4429 Route 14, Crystal Lake. Costumed children can trick or treat in a safe place after Halloween, and families can enjoy carriage rides provided by Dickens Carriage Co. of Hebron. Free.
