Belvidere man dies, Marengo man taken to hospital after Union crash

A 40-year-old Belvidere man died Friday night after a Ford F-150 truck reportedly hit the 2008 Kia Rio he was driving near a Union intersection.

A 911 call was made at 5:35 p.m. Friday, and emergency personnel responded to Route 176 and Union Road, according to a news release from the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

A preliminary investigation showed that Ryan P. Weberpal was driving the Kia south on Union when he did not yield to an 80-year-old Marengo man driving a truck west on Route 176, according to a McHenry County Sheriff’s Office news release. Weberpal was pronounced dead at 5:45 p.m.

The Marengo man was taken to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
