Crystal Lake Mayor Aaron Shepley said he believes the upcoming Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott will create jobs and have a positive effect on other area businesses.
“We’re thrilled. ... Every time you bring a new business, it will create jobs,” he said, adding that it’s too early to know how many will be created. “It’s going to be another top-shelf hotel in Crystal Lake. That section of town will have a positive impact on other shopping areas that are immediately adjacent. We’re looking forward to it.”
The new hotel will be at the intersection of Routes 14 and 31, and it is slated to break ground late next year, said Heather Maieritsch, the city’s economic development manager.
The hotel will have 88 rooms, a fitness center, banquet hall, bar, fitness center and pool.
“We’re very excited,” she said. “We currently have five hotels here in Crystal Lake, and we’re excited to add another option. ... Basically, we have a lot of people internationally and nationally that visit, so there is demand for it.”
Maieritsch said the hotel does not yet have an address. It will be on
2 acres in the northern portion of what is 900 Cog Circle, near Texas Roadhouse and Portillo’s, and will have 90 parking spaces.
Marriott created Fairfield by Marriott in 1987, and it opened its first location in Atlanta, according to the company’s website.
There are more than 800 such hotels across the world that cater to people traveling for business.
The chain claims to offer a “simple, straightforward and stress-free experience,” according to its site.
