The Thayer Road bridge in Hebron Township has reopened to traffic, according to a news release from the McHenry County Division of Transportation.
The bridge closed Nov. 23 and originally was set to reopen on Dec. 14. Detour signs were being taken down Monday, county officials said.
The bridge's load limits will remain at 20 tons for single vehicles and 30 tons for vehicles with three or more axles. After the Illinois Department of Transportation gives permission to remove the limits, legal loads of up to 40 tons will be permitted.
The project aimed to repair the bridge on Thayer Road, west of Route 47, and eliminate the load restriction placed on it. The bridge is scheduled for replacement in 2022.
Work was completed by Sjostrom Contractors for about $150,888, according to the release.
