Flurry Fest in Lake in the Hills aims to give back to the community

Drive aims to fill bus with nonperishable items

Lake in the Hills Village Hall will host Flurry Fest this week, a holiday event featuring a number of family activities and an opportunity to give back to the community through donations to local food pantries.

The event will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at 600 Harvest Gate. During that time, a Lake in the Hills bus will be parked in front of Village Hall so residents can help pack it full of nonperishable food items.

At 4:30 p.m., Those Funny Little People – a Willowbrook-based mobile puppet act featured on the NBC program “America’s Got Talent” – will put on a performance dressed as holiday elves. The novelty act infuses comedy, music, dance and audience interaction into an experience for all ages.

Families also can treat themselves to hot chocolate and cookies while listening to holiday music and taking part in various crafts.

Results from the village’s Deck the Deer event will be on display.

A number of residents, businesses and local organizations have taken up the challenge in decorating 4- and 6-foot plywood reindeer in accordance with the village’s theme of Santa’s Workshop.

Reindeer were available outside Village Hall for decoration starting Nov. 27, and designs must be finished by the end of the day Friday.

Voting for the best reindeer will begin during Flurry Fest and continue through Dec. 31. Awards for the best reindeer will be given out in January.

For information, call Village Hall at 847-960-7400.
