Operation North Pole train to visit Crystal Lake

Local fire and police departments on Saturday will participate in Operation North Pole – an event that supports children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Participants will start the day with a breakfast before being placed on a special Metra train that travels to the Pingree Road train station in Crystal Lake, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department.

The train will become the “North Pole Express” once it reaches Crystal Lake, and children will be met by local firefighters and police officers who will provide snacks and gifts to participants. The train later will head to the “North Pole,” Des Plaines, and fire departments at every train station along the route will be waving and cheering on passengers as they travel to a winter wonderland-themed celebration, according to the release.
