A Carpentersville man faces criminal charges in connection with a May crash that killed a 32-year-old pregnant woman and injured two others, police said.
Kane County prosecutors have charged 19-year-old Frank Ruiz with reckless homicide and aggravated reckless driving, according to a news release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office sent Monday.
The charges stem from a May 19 crash that occurred when police said Ruiz was speeding and disobeyed a traffic control device, according to the release.
Ruiz, of the 100 block of Cordova Road, Carpentersville, turned himself in to police Friday.
Rocio Hernandez-Balderas of Carpentersville died as a result of the crash. She was pregnant at the time, and the child also died, according to the release.
Hernandez-Balderas’ family could not be reached for comment Monday.
A Kane County judge released Ruiz from jail Saturday without posting a monetary bond, according to the release.
He is due in court Jan. 25.
