A Carpentersville man faces a mandatory prison sentence for sexually assaulting a young child.

On Monday, Kane County Judge Donald M. Tegeler Jr. found 30-year-old Michael Martinez guilty of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, according to a news release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Lori Schmidt and Andrew Leuchtmann presented evidence that between April 2014 and June 2014 Martinez sexually assaulted a child he knew, according to the release.

The victim was younger than 13 years old at the time.

Martinez, of the 100 block of Green Street, is scheduled for sentencing at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

He faces a sentence of between six and 60 years in prison for the Class X felony offense.

In addition to the prison term, Martinez must register for life as a sex offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act, the release stated.

After announcing the conviction, Tegeler revoked Martinez’s bond and had him detained in the Kane County jail, according to the release.
