High school sports roundup for Saturday, Jan. 5

A day after scoring 75 points in a win over Cary-Grove, Hampshire boys basketball had its offense rolling once more against Kaneland with a 81-44 nonconference victory Saturday in Hampshire.

The Whip-Purs (10-5) had four players reach double digits, including a game-high 17 points by Collin Woods.

Nick Erickson hit three 3s and finished with 15 points, while Keynan Davis and J.D. Shaw each had 14 points.

Benet 76, Marian Central 42: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes remained winless in East Suburban Catholic Conference play.

Ben Moscinski topped Marian (1-9, 0-3) with 16 points, Ben Minneci scored 11, and Jake Hurley had six points.

Woodstock 86, Indian Creek 71: At Shabbona, Andrew Adams paced the Blue Streaks with 28 points in the nonconference win.

Carl Anderson added 20 points, and Ethan Patterson scored 15.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Woodstock North 42, Hinckley-Big Rock 25: At Woodstock: Taylor Prerost poured in a game-high 16 points to lead the Thunder to a nonconference win.

Abby Hartmann provided North (8-10) with nine points, and Katelynn Ward and Kaitlyn Ford both scored five points.

Grant 54, Huntley 38: At Fox Lake, the Red Raiders dropped their nonconference matchup despite 22 points from Kamsi Nwogu.

Ali Galante added seven points for Huntley (6-10).

Indian Creek 62, Woodstock 47: At Shabbona, Eric Lockwood posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, but the Blue Streaks fell in nonconference action.

Emma Brand and Juel Mecklenburg each added 10 points for Woodstock (4-15).

Richmond-Burton 58, Harvard 28: At Harvard, the Rockets (7-9, 3-3) moved back to .500 in conference play with their win in Kishuwakee River Conference play.

Cassandra Bailey and Dinah Harter each scored six points for Harvard (1-14, 0-6).

WRESTLING

Waubonsie Valley Mega Duals: At Aurora, Crystal Lake Central went 2-2 with wins over Waubonsie Valley (63-4) and Lemont (46-27) and losses to Deerfield (43-33) and Marmion (40-33).

Stephen Bushy (170 pounds) went 4-0 with two pins, Ramon Fuentes (285) came away with three pins, and Andrew Hudec (220) had two pins. Dillon Carlson (113) and Brendan Parks (160) each had three wins, including two pins, and Caden Ernd (152) posted three wins, all by decision.

Sycamore Invite: At Sycamore: McHenry's Brody Hallin's second-place finish at 138 pounds led the way for local competitors at the 24-team tournament.

The Warriors also received top-10 finishes from Zack Seymour (fifth, 113 pounds), Zach Krzyzak (eighth, 170) and Nolan Wiese (ninth, 182).

Ryan McNeal's sixth-place effort at 285 pounds led the way for Cary-Grove. Brad Peters (160) came in seventh, and Charlie Gruen (132) was seventh.

Hampshire's Christian Rivero finished fifth at 120 pounds, and Nathan Larson was eighth at 182.

Jake Doyle placed sixth at 132 pounds for Marengo, and Joe Resendez took seventh at 113.

Woodstock North's Ed Flores took sixth at 152 pounds. Carter Miller (120) was seventh, while Conor Reyes (106), Isaiah Vela (138) and Henry Goetz (145) each finished eighth.

Round Lake Quad: At Round Lake, Justin Peake, Ethan Shedbalkar, Brad Wizceb and Zach Johnson each went 3-0 on the day for Johnsburg.

Wheeling Quad: At Wheeling,Crystal Lake South improved to 15-4 on the season with wins against Loyola, Wheeling and Glenbrook South.

Leyden Invite: At Franklin Park, Bryce Fiegel led Harvard at the 13-team tournament with a second-place finish at 106 pounds.

Uriel Herrera (113) and Nik Jimenez (120) each took third place, and Chase Bischke finished fifth at 138 pounds.
