To the Editor:
In 2016, President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans promised to address the issue of huge budget deficits and soaring national debt.
So did Trump and Republicans keep their promises? Here is the record of what the fiscally conservative Republicans accomplished during the first two years of the Trump presidency: The budget deficit for fiscal 2018 almost was $800 billion and will be an estimated $900 billion-plus for fiscal 2019.
I know that almost $1.8 trillion is a lot of money to add to the already $21 trillion-plus national debt, but just imagine how much more would have been added to the national debt if we had not had the fiscal conservatives in control of all spending.
Republicans promised to do something about budget deficits and the soaring national debt, and boy, did they keep their promises.
