A proposal to renovate a former Chevrolet dealership at 13980 Automall Drive in Huntley into a production brewery and brewpub restaurant will be considered by the village’s Plan Commission on Monday.
More Brewing, which operates a brewery in Villa Park that produces less than 5,000 barrels of beer annually, is planning to remodel about 14,000 square feet of the site into a brewpub restaurant with an outdoor patio and special events area. The remaining 11,000 square feet would be used for production.
To do so, the Village Board would have to approve a text amendment to add a microbrewery as a special use in the site’s current zoning, a special use permit and a site plan review for the proposed modifications.
A conceptual review of the proposal took place during the board’s Dec. 20 meeting. Trustees were supportive of the proposal, but some wanted to ensure there was appropriate signage to attract motorists from nearby Interstate 90.
Development services director Charles Nordman previously said the board approved an amendment to its comprehensive plan for the Interstate 90/Route 47 gateway to include the Automall Drive location as an opportunity site for mixed commercial development that also would serve as a regional draw.
Although the petitioner was interested in allowing wine and spirit sales, Illinois Liquor Commission statutes and regulations prevent the facility from serving such alcoholic beverages.
The Plan Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Village Board room of the Huntley Municipal Complex, 10987 Main St.
