Snow makes for hazardous driving in McHenry County

Numerous crashes were reported across the county Saturday afternoon. Most were minor – cars sliding off the road, bumping into each other.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather warning in McHenry County Saturday.

Light snow is expected to pepper the area into the night, adding an inch of snow in the area, according to the service. A total of 2 inches is expected to accumulate.

Temperatures will hover in the mid 20s with northeast winds between 10 and 20 mph, according to the service.

Snowy conditions made for a slick commute on McHenry County roads Saturday.

Crystal Lake Fire Department Battalion Chief Jerry Larsen said emergency crews responded to "a few" fender benders on icy streets, but nothing too serious.

He offered this advice to anyone considering driving in the snow:

"Stay home," he said.
