To the Editor:
I appreciate the diplomatic letter Tony Weaver wrote about using technology to secure our borders.
President Donald Trump likes to build things: Hotels around the world, golf courses around the world, companies around the world and now a border wall between Mexico and the United States.
The symbol for our country is the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor. Words on the base of the Statue of Liberty read, in part, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free …”
Yes, we need border security, but at what price?
I talked to a friend who lives in Harvard yesterday, and he said that his elementary school-aged son came home from school hungry.
Instead of a full sandwich, because of the government shutdown, the school, to conserve its food supplies, only offered half a sandwich to the students.
Thank you, Mr. President.
