High school sports roundup for Friday, Jan. 18

Michael Patterson scored 26 points, making five 3-pointers, to help Prairie Ridge to its first Fox Valley Conference win, 53-46, over first-place Dundee-Crown on Friday in Carpentersville.

Patterson made 13 total field goals and was 5 of 5 from the free throw line. Jack Podlasek and Tim Cook each scored seven points for the Wolves (2-18, 1-9 FVC).

D-C (15-4, 7-3) had won seven games in a row and was in first place in the FVC. The Chargers dropped into a virtual tie for first with Crystal Lake Central and Crystal Lake South.

Kyle Huber led D-C with nine points. Trayvon Hatcher and Josh Raby each scored eight.

The Chargers honored the 2009 Class 4A state finalist boys basketball team during halftime.

Cary-Grove 47, Huntley 46: At Cary, Frank Jakubicek scored 25 points, 22 in the second half, to lead the Trojans (14-5, 6-3) to an FVC win. Beau Frericks added five points, and Ryan Weaver and Addison West each scored four points.

Ryan Sroka and Uchenna Egekeze scored 19 points apiece for Huntley (10-7, 5-4).

Jacobs 40, McHenry 30: At McHenry, the Golden Eagles (10-10, 4-6) picked up a win in the FVC against McHenry (1-19, 1-9).

Richmond-Burton 60, Woodstock North 46: At Richmond, Devin Bailey led the Rockets (7-11, 2-2) with 17 points in a Kishwaukee River Conference win. Luke Uhwat contributed 11 points.

Bradley Baseggio led North (9-8, 2-1) with 16 points, while Ryan Schaffter scored 10.

Woodstock 79, Johnsburg 76: At Woodstock, Carl Anderson scored 23 points, Evan Bridges scored 21, and Andrew Adams added 19 for the Blue Streaks in a KRC win.

The Skyhawks (9-7, 3-1) scored 34 points in the fourth quarter but couldn’t catch the Streaks. Woodstock (8-10, 2-1) made 13 of 15 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Johnsburg’s Zach Toussaint scored 23 points, all in the second half. Gibson Groves added 20 points, and Jonny Preston scored 18.

Burlington Central 71, Marengo 42: At Burlington, Aiden Smith scored 13 points for Marengo (9-9, 1-3) in a KRC loss. Connor Wascher contributed nine points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Crystal Lake Central 53, Richmond-Burton 21: At Crystal Lake, Maddie Haslow scored 12 points and had four assists in Central’s nonconference win over R-B. Cori Hamill had six points, nine rebounds and four assists for the Tigers (14-5).

For R-B (10-12), Peyton Bannon and Kasey Miller each scored five points.

Johnsburg 53, Woodstock 25: At Woodstock, Morgan Madsen scored 20 points, and Megan Madsen added 16 for the Skyhawks (12-9, 7-3) in a KRC victory.

Erin Lockwood led Woodstock (4-19, 2-8) with seven points and eight rebounds.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS

Prairie Ridge Invitational: At Crystal Lake, Prairie Ridge won its five-team home meet with 147.4 points, as Maddy Kim and Gracie Willis tied for second in the all-around at 37.55.

The Wolves, who draw competitors from Cary-Grove, Crystal Lake Central, Crystal Lake South and Prairie Ridge, brought the spring floor and apparatuses from Crystal Lake Gymnastics Training Center for the home meet. Wolves coach Lee Battaglia also coaches the girls at CLGTC.

Sydney Hallsten was fourth in the all-around at 36.75.

Willis scored 9.75 for second in floor exercise and 9.6 for third on vault. Kim scored 9.5 for second on beam, 9.25 for third on uneven bars and 9.45 for fourth in floor exercise.

Hallsten was second on vault (9.7), fifth on bars (9.1) and fifth in floor exercise (9.35).

WRESTLING

Harvard 33, Woodstock North 32: At Woodstock, Harvard won the final three matches in a KRC dual to come from behind and beat North. Ivan Rosas (120) recorded a third-period pin in the final match to put the Hornets ahead.

Bryce Fiegel (106) and Uriel Herrera (113) won the two matches before Rosas after Harvard fell behind by 12 points. Fiegel won, 7-2, and Herrera won by major decision, 9-1. Eric Parra (170) and Edwin Quinones (182) also recorded pins for the Hornets (17-11, 3-3).

North’s Eddie Flores (152), Mason Riley (160) and Sean Jaco (285) had pins.

Johnsburg 48, Marengo 24: At Johnsburg, the Skyhawks won a KRC dual on senior night. Logan Kirk, Ethan Shedbalkar, Max Kegel, Justin Peake, Jake Gebis, Cole Romano and Justin Wallace each recorded pins for the Skyhawks.

Burlington Central triangular: At Burlington, McHenry (10-18) defeated Richmond-Burton, 39-28, and Burlington Central, 35-30, in nonconference duals.

Against R-B, McHenry’s Sean Fischler (152) won via pin against Mike Drdla. Brody Hallin (138) won via technical fall vs. Jonah Braden. R-B’s Dalton Wood (160) won via pin against Joe Hansen.

In McHenry’s win over Burlington Central, Zach Seymour (113), Rocky Piehl (126), Hallin (138) and Hansen (160) won via pins. Fischler (152) won by technical fall.
