A winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service for north central and northeastern Illinois will remain in effect until noon Saturday.

During this time, total snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches are expected, with winds gusting 30 to 35 mph.

The strong winds and drifting snow could significantly reduce visibility, making travel very difficult.

For those who have to travel, the National Weather Service recommends keeping an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

The Illinois Tollway advised that it will be deploying its full fleet of 196 snowplows in response to the projected snowfall. Drivers whose vehicles become disabled should activate hazard lights and dial *999 for assistance.
