A Machesney Park man died Wednesday after a crash involving two semitrailers on Interstate 90 near Hampshire, according to the Illinois State Police.

The crash happened about 10:20 a.m. Wednesday at mile marker 41.25, which is west of Route 20 on I-90.

A red Freightliner semitrailer had its four-way hazard lights activated and began to reduce speed in the far right lane, according to an ISP news release.

Lorne Hoover II, 43, was driving a white Freightliner and struck the rear trailer of the red Freightliner. The red Freightliner was driven by a 49-year-old man from St. Paul, Minnesota.

Hoover suffered fatal injuries from the impact of the crash, which remains under investigation, police said. The Huntley Fire Department pronounced him dead at the scene.

The crash temporarily closed two westbound lanes of I-90.
