Cary-based robotics team qualifies for state competition

The Golden Ratio, a local robotics team based in Cary, recently won a spot at the Illinois FIRST Robotics Competition state championship. FIRST, which stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, is an organization dedicated to spreading knowledge of science, technology, engineering and math fields through friendly competition.

Teams had about five months to build and construct a robot to complete a series of tasks. At the league championship Feb. 2 at McHenry County College, The Golden Ratio took home the first-place Inspire Award, landing it a place in the state championship, which will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 22 at Elgin Community College.

Admission to the competition is free and open to all interested in watching young minds accomplish great things through robotics.
