A 44-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in her sleep remained at the McHenry County Jail on Wednesday evening.
Fredrick W. Ahlmann II of the 300 block of Tioga Trail, Marengo, is charged with criminal sexual assault. If convicted of the charge, he could be sentenced to as many as 15 years in prison.
The public defender assigned to Ahlmann’s case could not be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon.
The alleged assault happened
Feb. 5, 2018, after Ahlmann attended an adult acquaintance’s birthday party at The Spot in Marengo, according to a petition for a no-contact order filed in McHenry County court.
Later that night, a group of people, including Ahlmann, left the bar and went to a home in Marengo, where they continued drinking and talking, the woman wrote in her petition. Sometime after 3 a.m., “things got hazy,” she wrote.
The woman later awoke in her bedroom, unsure of how she got there, to Ahlmann sexually assaulting her, according to the petition.
A McHenry County judge granted the woman’s no-contact order against Ahlmann the next day, court records show.
Ahlmann was arrested Friday.
Marengo police could not be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon.
Ahlmann’s next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 22.
