Thumbs-up for replacement owner for Huntley's Dean Foods building

Thumbs-up: To Country Delight Inc.’s plans to buy the former Dean Foods plant in Huntley. The Dean’s plant halted production in September, and 131 people lost their jobs, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act letter sent by the company. Now milk transporter Country Delight, which has been operating out of part of the Dean’s site, has plans to buy the building. Country Delight expects about 75 to 105 employees in Huntley. We hope the sale goes through and the plant is revived – maybe some of the people who lost their jobs in September can even get them back.

Thumbs-down: To Marian Central's lengthy search for a new head football coach, which ended Friday with the hiring of assistant coach Darren Fortin. A Marian Central graduate, Fortin is quality choice, but why did it take nearly four months? The long search caused two coaching candidates, both Marian grads, to withdraw their names from consideration. The delay also caused increased frustration within the Marian Central community, which is already reeling from multiple adminstrative changes during the last few years.
