Illinois State Police will conduct roadside safety checks on westbound Interstate 90 at the Route 31 toll plaza, according to a news release sent Friday.
The checks will be from 9 p.m. March 15 to 2 a.m. March 16.
“The ISP has zero tolerance for impaired driving in Illinois,” according to the release. “Officers working this detail will be watchful for drivers who are operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, transporting open alcoholic beverages or driving under the influence.”
Alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in about 40 percent of all fatal crashes in Illinois.
Roadside safety checks are designed to help keep roads safe, and the project is funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
