Lake in the Hills police ask for help identifying car that may be connected to 'suspicious fire'

Officials: ‘Suspicious fire’ occurred Sunday morning

Lake in the Hills police are trying to identify a car that may be connected to a “suspicious fire” that happened over the weekend, police said.

A car fire occurred about 3:35 a.m. Sunday near Washington and McKinley streets, according to a message posted on the police department’s Facebook page Tuesday.

Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Eric Busby said the incident was a car fire, which remains under investigation.

A suspect last was seen wearing a dark jacket or hoodie with a reflective-type logo, police said in the post. The car that police are trying to identify is believed to be a white Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable and may have either a spare tire or a tire with a missing hubcap on the rear passenger side, according to the post.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call the investigations division at 847-658-5676, text TIP LITHPD to 888777 or submit an anonymous tip through the Nixle alert system.

Lake in the Hills police could not be reached for details Tuesday.
