Firefighters investigating burning smell at Parkland School in McHenry

Firefighters investigated a burning smell Wednesday at Parkland School in McHenry, according to a statement from McHenry School District 15 Superintendent Josh Reitz.

“[The] McHenry Fire Department is on [the] scene of an activated fire alarm at Parkland School. Fire crews are investigating a burning smell in the building. Students and staff have safely evacuated the building, and arrangements are being made for students to be picked up or bused home,” according to the statement sent to parents Wednesday afternoon.

McHenry Police Department public information officer Patrick Polidori said the incident was minor.

“They cleared the scene relatively quickly after they got there,” Polidori said. “It was toward the end of the school day.”
