Lake in the Hills police have released new details about a suspicious car fire that occurred Sunday.

Police were dispatched about 3:35 a.m. to the 1400 block of Washington Street, where they found a white 2011 GMC Acadia fully engulfed in flames, Lake in the Hills police communications coordinator Ashley Eccles said.

Video surveillance identified a white four-door vehicle, believed to be a Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable, traveling north on Washington Street approaching McKinley Street minutes before the fire started.

Eccles said the video shows a person exit the passenger side of the car and approach the Acadia. The person then ran back to the car he or she exited before leaving the scene traveling east on McKinley Street.

Police still are investigating the incident and are seeking information about the car, which may be connected to the fire. Anyone with information can call the investigations division at 847-658-5676, text TIP LITHPD to 888777 or submit an anonymous tip through the Nixle alert system.
