Eleven Tigers scored in Crystal Lake Central’s 58-33 win over McHenry on Thursday in Crystal Lake, and Central locked up a share of the Fox Valley Conference title. Central (19-11, 12-4) shares the title with Crystal Lake South, which also finished 12-4 in league play.
C.J. Lerum led Central with 10 points. Will Welder and Keegan Vesely each scored nine points.
Jack Bauer led McHenry (2-26, 2-14) with seven points, while Adam Benton and Jacob Evans scored six points each.
Richmond-Burton 71, Round Lake 62: At Richmond, Jeff Jankowski scored 42 points to lead the Rockets (13-14) to a nonconference victory. Jankowski made 16 total field goals, including three 3s, and shot 7 of 12 from the free-throw line. He scored 21 points in each half and 13 in the fourth quarter.
R-B’s Luke Uhwat scored 16 points, and Devin Bailey added 10 points.
Dundee-Crown 51, Hampshire 49: At Carpentersville, Jordan Hairston led D-C with 15 points in an FVC win. Jack Michalski scored 11 points, and Trayvon Hatcher added seven for the Chargers (18-9, 9-7).
For Hampshire (15-16, 9-7), Jackson Milison led the way with 12 points. Kyle Johnson, Collin Woods and Marcus Lazar each scored nine points.
Cary-Grove 66, Prairie Ridge 38: At Crystal Lake, C-G’s Frank Jakubicek scored 16 points, and Beau Frericks added 15 in an FVC win. The win marks the first 20-win season for C-G (20-7, 11-5) since the 2000-01 season, when the Trojans went 26-5 and won a sectional title.
Michael Patterson led Prairie Ridge (2-25, 1-15) with 11 points. Carter Evans scored seven points, and Lucas Rietz scored six.
Wheeling 61, Johnsburg 44: At Wheeling, the Skyhawks (18-12) lost in nonconference action.
3-point showdown: Five local sharpshooters advanced to state in the IHSA 3-point showdown, including three from Marengo. In Class 3A, the Indians’ Marissa Knobloch, Jennifer Heinberg and Hannah Faber all advanced to state. Heinberg reached state for the second year in a row.
In Class 4A, McHenry’s Izzy Gscheidle and Crystal Lake South’s Emily Rich qualified for state. State contestants shoot in a preliminary round Thursday in Bloomington, with the top four advancing to Friday's final round.
