SHINING STAR: A TRIBUTE TO EARTH, WIND & FIRE, 8 to 10 p.m. March 9, Raue Center for the Arts, 26 N. Williams St., Crystal Lake. This amazing recreation of Earth, Wind & Fire’s music and show is based on the 1970s thru 1980s the peak time of Earth, Wind & Fire’s magical career, and the highly acclaimed live recordings of their concerts later released on DVDs. DISNEY'S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST – THE MUSICAL, 8 p.m March 8, 2 and 8 p.m. March 9, 2 p.m. March 10, Woodstock Opera House, 121 W. Van Buren St., Woodstock. Adapted from Walt Disney Pictures' Academy Award-winning 1991 animated musical film of the same name, Beauty and the Beast tells the story of a cold-blooded prince who has been magically transformed into an unsightly creature as punishment for his selfish ways. To revert into his true human form, the Beast must learn to love a bright, beautiful young woman whom he has imprisoned in his enchanted castle before it is too late. Cost: $18-25 for adults, $16-23 for students and seniors. MONARCH AND ME, 6 to 7 p.m., March 8, The Nature Center, 330 N. Main St., Crystal Lake. Become a part of the Nature Center's newest adventure: Adults will be creating a kaleidoscope of Origami Monarchs to be displayed in the Nature Center while the children will play with, sort, prep and learn about milkweed seeds and the caterpillars they will feed. Take home most of your origami butterflies and a package of milkweed seeds. Proceeds will help run the Nature Center Butterfly House. Ages 6 and older. Cost $12-14.

19TH CENTURY SCIENTISTS, ongoing through May 1, Lost Valley Visitor Center, 6316 Harts Road, Ringwood. Feed your curiosity by coming to view what 19th century scientists have to show us, and perhaps you will be inspired to follow in their footsteps. The exhibit highlights a geologist, an ornithologist, and our very own McHenry County based botanist, Dr. George Vasey and features rocks and fossils, bird mounts, pressed plants, biographies, and tools of the inquisitive scientist. NERF WARS, 5 to 7 p.m., March 9, Westosha Legacy Athletic Club, 2449 Pierce Dr., Spring Grove. Nerf Wars is two hours of Nerf Battles for the whole family or just the kids. Bring your own Nerf Gun that uses Nerf Elite darts. We supply the ammo (Elite darts) and safety glasses. Cost: $10.
